Practically nothing has a more instant or lasting effect on the financial success of any web page, than the keywords the page is optimized for.
If a web page is not receiving any visitors from the major search engines, simply modifying the keywords the web page targets can have a remarkable impact. But getting additional traffic from the major search engines is no assurance that the traffic will produce any earnings.
The important thing is to apply appropriate long tail keyword research to discover keywords which are not only found low competition, but which have commercial intent.
People using search engines will be in one of these simple three types:
1) Simply surfing the web without any actual intent, or at the initial stage of research where they are reviewing at what is accessible.
2) Looking into the options available and are seeking the best product or service which suits their needs.
3) They know what they need and are searching for a place to purchase it.
The closer the keywords (a web page is optimized for) are to the third class, the greater the revenue the page will generate.
Keywords in this third group are extremely specific and in most cases will not receive much traffic from the major search engines, but that traffic will appear on a web page with their credit cards out, ready to pay…
When doing long tail keyword research, don’t worry too much about the quantity of times the keyword is used in a search engine. Focus on whether the keyword has high commercial intent and is very specific.
Here’s an example:
The keyword “acne” could receive plenty of traffic but what accurately are the people who type that into search engines searching for? It may be any of these:
- What is acne?
- How to get rid of acne?
- How to spell acne?
- Is acne a disorder?
- What acne cures are out there?
- Do you know the best acne programs?
- etc.
Consider these alternatively:
- How to eliminate acne fast?
- How to reduce acne quickly?
Anybody who types those into search engines wants a easy answer to their skin issue. A web page which endorses an acne cure and focuses on similar long tail keywords is going to generate a much higher income than a web site which targets a general keyword like “acne”.
So when building a website, don’t get too hung up on the number of times a low competition keyword is used in the various search engines, but do look closely at the commercial intent of the keywords.
